ELYTRA
Elytra is a luxury bar cabinet made for the Collab Journal Design Competition and was selected as “Notable Project”among 75 submissions.

The objective of the Collab Journal Design Competition was to make a console, a cabinet or a sideboard based on the artist and industrial designer Sebastian Errazuriz.
The tendency of the bar cabinets that are on the market is that they are made out of wood and have a cubic form. That is why the “surprise theme” that is seen on Sebastian’s work needed to be present.
Elytra fuses luxury with the element of surprise. It was designed to function as an art piece when closed but it transitions into a bar cabinet when it is opened.
The mechanism is inspired by the ladybug’s elytra - the outer shells that protect the flying wings.
